Environment
Exterior, UV-exposed surfaces
What is the Polyurethane Group?
Polyurethane paints are two-component systems formed by curing a polyol-based resin with an isocyanate hardener. Aliphatic polyurethanes in particular are known as topcoats that retain their color and gloss under sunlight for many years.
In industrial corrosion protection systems they are usually applied over an epoxy primer and intermediate coat, combining the strong protection of epoxy with the outdoor durability of polyurethane. Their flexible film resists cracking under temperature changes, and they are also frequently used in wood and furniture varnishes.
Key Features
- Superior UV and weather resistance
- Long-term color and gloss retention
- Flexible, crack-resistant film
- Abrasion and chemical resistance
- Matte, satin and gloss options
- Full compatibility with epoxy systems
Protection layer by layer
Anti-Corrosive Primer
Active corrosion protection on metal is provided by a zinc-rich or epoxy primer.
Epoxy Intermediate Coat
Increases total film thickness and strengthens the barrier protection of the system.
Polyurethane Topcoat
A decorative top layer resistant to UV, rain and dirt that retains its color and gloss.
Where is it used?
The right start, a long life
- 01
The polyurethane topcoat must be applied over a properly prepared primer or intermediate coat.
- 02
The previous coat must be within the manufacturer's recoat window; if exceeded, the surface should be lightly sanded.
- 03
The surface must be dry, clean and free of dust.
What to watch out for during application
- 01
Since the isocyanate component can react with moisture, application should be carried out in dry weather.
- 02
The mixture must be used within its pot life, with the recommended thinner.
- 03
Because it contains isocyanates, suitable respiratory protection must be used during application.
Mixing ratio, pot life and recoat intervals vary by product; the product's technical data sheet should always be used for exact values.
